Salterton - situated at the mouth of the River Otter is a lovely sheltered seaside
town. Interesting and unusual shops line Fore Street and the High Street with
small side streets to explore. Its pebbles, or cobbles, were swept to the shores
by ancient rivers and are unique along the Jurassic Coast. The River Otter is
a haven for birdwatchers and nearby Bicton Park Botanical Gardens a delight for
all. Ottery St Mary is one of the oldest and most historic towns in East Devon.
Visit the medieval Parish Church of St Mary, which was voted among the 20 finest
in England. Modelled on Exeter Cathedral, it has an astonomical clock and weathercock
reputed to be among the oldest in Europe. Thatched cottages and beautiful
countryside make this an enjoyable visit. |
