Lady lacemaking by hand
The historic market town of Honiton - centre of the world famous lace-making industry. Once a busy coaching station, the old inns are still recognisable along the main Georgian Street. There is a wide selection of antique shops, art and second-hand book shops to visit, plus a good selection of restaurants and cafes to enjoy a tasty snack or leisurely meal. A twice-weekly street market gives an interesting opportunity to browse amongst the stalls. Stunning countryside around Honiton includes the Otter Valley and Blackdown Hills.

From Sidmouth you can visit many interesting places without travelling far. Buses run regularly into the City of Exeter where a visit to the Cathedral can offer both tranquillity and architectural delight. The City’s excellent shopping centre provides retail therapy to suit every taste.

A car drive across the stunning scenery of Dartmoor is a must for anyone visiting Devon. There are places even closer to explore; Budleigh Salterton, Honiton, Ottery St. Mary and the beautiful Axe Valley are all close by, as are many and varied picturesque villages just waiting to be found.
